I’m Mandy Bartok, the face behind Uncover Japan. I first came to Japan in 2008, with the intention of only staying one year. Instead, I’ve spent 13 of the last 15 years here, living in Okinawa, Kumamoto and now Tokyo.
I’ve been lucky enough to explore all 47 of Japan’s prefectures. I’m a huge fan of onsen (hot springs), seasonal flowers and quiet mountain trails, and I have a weak spot for anything flavored with the citrus fruit yuzu.
I began my career as a tour guide showing military families the highlights of the island of Okinawa. Today, I lead small group walks around Tokyo, focusing on history, culture and the changing seasons. I often highlight the more unsung neighborhoods, sharing the stories that make up this fascinating city. Check the group excursions page to join any of my upcoming group tours, or connect with me to book one of my itineraries for your private group or family.
