Frequently Asked Questions

Who are your tours best suited for?

A large number of my participants are residents of Tokyo, and I get to know them quite well over the course of multiple tours. I’d say around 60%-70% of my customers are repeat walkers!

Overseas visitors are more than welcome to join my tours, so long as they realize I don’t necessarily cover the “must-sees”. But if you like historical context, fascinating stories, cultural tidbits and sights with few(er) crowds, you’ll likely enjoy these walks!

How many people are on a group tour?

Group walks can have a maximum of 10 people. Walks usually average about 5-7 people.

Are your excursions suitable for children?

Most of my tours are very “history-heavy”, and Japanese history is often less than uplifting! Depending on the tour, we may talk about assassinations, earthquakes, air raids and other difficult topics. Before booking a tour for your family, I’d be happy to help you decide if it may be age appropriate.

Do you offer excursions year-round?

I offer excursions from September until June. I do not guide in July and August.

What language are your excursions offered in?

All excursions are offered in English.

Do you offer tours outside of the Tokyo region?

No. Some of my longer tours (the full day tours and hikes) visit spots outside of Tokyo city proper. However, I do not tour in other parts of Japan (i.e., Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima). I am happy to recommend other guides to you if you are traveling to other parts of Japan.

Can I hire you for a private excursion?

Of course! Check out the Private Excursions page. If one of my itineraries catches your eye, drop me an email to get in touch.

Can I customize my private excursion?

At the moment, I am not doing any customized private excursions. I’m not touring in neighborhoods that aren’t listed on the Private Excursions page.

Can we book two of your itineraries for the same day (back-to-back tours)?

It depends on the itinerary. Some excursions are easy to join together (ex: Ningyocho/Nihonbashi pairs well with Hibiya/Marunouchi for a full day of exploration). However, there will be a break for lunch (independently).

Do you guide multi-day tours?

No. I do not accompany groups to different destinations outside of Tokyo. However, you are welcome to book multiple day tours with me, in order to thoroughly explore the city and its neighborhoods.
