Escape to nearby Chiba prefecture to visit a historic temple known for its profusion of summer flowers. Wander a garden of irises and stunning fields of hydrangeas. Enjoy snacks at a local farmers’ market, before visiting a hidden iris garden on the way back to Tokyo.

• ¥10,000 (includes 10% sales tax, temple admission, lunch, services of a cultural specialist). Not included: train fare to and from Hondo-ji (approx. ¥1200)
